Polyphemus farofa is precisely what its peculiar name suggests unwillingly - the continuous demand for the impossible mixture, the ceaseless strive for a form that can resurrect the moving image in its trance and its miracle. Polyphemus, after all, is the one-eyed cyclops that lost his eyesight, doomed to curse nobody in his cavern without vision, while farofa is a Brazilian toasted yuca flour continually mixed with scraps and fragments of other dishes. To transform farofa to Polyphemus is to create a whole from parts, a totality with the infinite, an artificial eye of multiplicity that may be shut and see because sight has become multicultural dreaming. In a time where everything has become cinema, where everything is movement and moving, and where films are powerless and unable to resurrect dead images, it is necessary, once again, to reveal the destiny of film in the syncopation of time and history. This is Polyphemus Farofa's only vocation and mission; it is not a production company, a collective, or a cooperative; it is a vision shared and always open to anyone willing to resurrect the moving image.
